10 Types of Real Magic You Can Learn

Magic, the Art of harnessing the incredible unseen powers of the universe, is a wide ranging topic - within which are many branches you can explore. Each of these branches in turn splits into many, many subsidary areas. As a witch or wizard you may not have the time to learn everything, however fascinating the whole magical curriculum is, and after your initial dipping into magic, learning a little bit about a number of topics, you will eventually probably find that you will settle upon one or two areas of magic which you will make your own.
There are after all, a whole plethora of different types of witch or wizard! Will you be a Wizard of the Elements? A Divination Magician? A Master of Potions, Manifestation, Subtle Energy Magic, an Empath, a Healer, a Psychic Warrior?
To help you choose which magical path may be for you, it helps if you have some idea of the wide scope of options out there to explore. To this end, here are 10 type of real magic which you can learn (and possibly become a Master of!) This is not an exhaustive list by any means, you may find you develop an interest in some other niche and relatively unexplored area of magical lore, but it is a good starting point.

Manifestation Magic
Manifestation Magic is usually the magic that 85% of witches and wizards are initially interested in doing. This is because it is such an all encompassing subject. Manifestation Magic basically means, any magic that brings something, either a thing/person or an event, into being. It is the "go to" magic for anyone who wants a new house, a new car, a new relationship, a great job opportunity. Whatever it is that you want, you name it, Manifestation Magic has got it covered!
Manifestation Magic is generally the most exciting and useful magic for any learner magician to begin practising. This is because you can usually get some degree of results fast - and, if you think about it, Manifestation Magic is about getting all of your basic needs sorted; money, love, career, etc. All things which are essential to your highest happiness. It is the most basic, and therefore, most base form of Magic.
Often a witch or wizard who is highly successful at Manifestation Magic will then go on to develop an interest in some other more subtle form of magic - as when you have everything materially that your heart could desire, your soul then starts to seek out higher things, to joyfully move to a finer frequency where possessions and riches are no longer your greatest motivation. This is why the rule normally stands that "Good magicians are ridiculously wealthy; the Best magicians change the world for the better". This is not to say that the Best Magicians are living in poverty, far from it (unless by choice), just that a truly enlightened and powerful Magician will usually have gone beyond the mere quest for money and will be working on some magnificent project of their own choosing. I.e they're more likely to get a Nobel Prize than appear in the Forbes Rich List.
Manifestation Magic is a lot of fun and it is important for your general well being. We must all look to heal and richly take care of ourselves before we can heal the world, before our cup is full enough to overflow and bless others. I'm currently practising a lot of successful Manifestation Magic, but Somewhere inside me I know there is a Dream Mage which will increasingly demand more of my time in the future!
Divination Magic
Divination is the magical Art of predicting happenings or events. These events could be in the past, present or future. For instance, a Master of Divination would be able to discover the truth behind an historical date, the location of a present day lost bankcard, the whereabouts of a hostage, or the date and nature of an upcoming terrorist attack/ natural disaster.
Divination Magic can itself be subdivided into many smaller niches, as a Master of Divination has many different resources available to come by their information. They may, for instance, specialise in psychic dreams or intuition; or alternatively they may use Runes, the Tarot, a pendulum, or a Scrying Mirror.
Remote Viewing or Astral Projection
Someone who practises Remote Viewing or Astral Projection is literally sending their etheric or spirit body out into the world, travelling through space or time at will, in order to bring back information or to perform healing or other spells at a distance. Information bought back from a Remote Viewing could be related to future or present events, people, or even occurrences in the past.
Remote Viewing is a phenomenon which is very real, and can be learnt by anyone, regardless of psychic aptitude or anything like that. Healing Magic
A healing magician or Empath will employ a variety of magical techniques to heal others, both mentally and physically. They will use tools from other magical disciplines, but the defining factor of a Master of Healing Magic is that their primary focus is in being a magical physician. A witch or wizard drawn to being an Empath or Healing Master will usually be a very kind, caring and sympathetic person to start with; a people person, if you like, or otherwise someone with a huge heart for the environment or animals. (Remember situations and events can benefit from healing as much as individual people!)
A Healing Magician, as mentioned before, will use a variety of magical techniques to achieve results. They may, for instance, use healing potions on their subjects. Or they could use elemental or energy magic. Alternatively, they could Astral Project over distances to bring healing to a person or a situation.
Dream Magic
A Dream Mage often has similar powers as a Master of Divination, however Dream Magic deserves a section in its own right, as it is not solely used for divination purposes. A Dream Mage may indeed use Dream Magic to predict future events, but they will also be skilled in other areas.
Dream Magic is about self discovery and wisdom. A well designed Lucid Dream could help the Dream Mage to discover the most fortuitous way forward in individual situations, the best way to achieve success and to attain a goal. It could help the Mage to discover their true purpose in life, or give them a source of endless magical inspiration and creativity.
Each Dream Mage will use the power of their Dreams to assist them in different ways - so again, this is a subject which conceals many more subjects, just like much of Magical Lore! On a basic level though, a skilled Dream Mage is usually also exceptionally gifted at Manifestation Magic - the two go hand in hand because a vivid imagination and mastery of your subconscious minds creative potential is the absolute tenet and foundation of Practical Magic. Telekinesis
Telekinesis is the magical Art of moving physical objects with the power of your mind. It is perhaps the most challenging of all the Magical Arts, as, unlike Manifestation Magic which manipulates subtle forces following the natural laws, telekinesis uses the powers of your mind to literally bypass these laws.
Indeed Telekinesis requires such a burst of mental energy and is so challenging to master that for most witches and wizards it makes more sense to have a little patience and concentrate on Manifestation Magic - which is just as effective but not instantaneous.
This being said, there is, in theory, "no order of difficulty in miracles" and thus, the ultimate goal of any Magician, in a state of Perfection and wisdom, would of course be immediate, instantaneous magic. It is a lofty goal, but one worth working on if you are drawn to this area of magic. At the very least, a witch or wizard who practises telekinesis will have a distinct advantage when it comes to elemental or energy magic, involving the use of Psi Balls and etheric energy forces to manipulate the fabric of the universe. The two go hand in hand - the highly advanced Elemental or Energy Magician may eventually achieve telekinesis. For the beginner, it may be wise to start with Energy Magic, for more immediately satisfying results and encouragement along your magical path.
Potions
A Potions Master is the nearest we can come to the traditional "well woman" or kitchen/hedgerow witch" of the past. They will specialise in knowing the names and often forgotten magical healing properties of the wild plants, berries, fruits, and seeds of their surroundings. Extremely useful knowledge, especially when you bear in mind that most of our modern medicine originated in some form or other from natural sources - Aspirin from Willow Bark, Warfarin from the Fox Glove, one of the first Antibiotics from Old Man's Bird Lichen etc. Natural sources are gentler on the body, particularly ideal for preventative medicine - and most of our modern deceases have a cure available growing somewhere; the role of the Potion's Master is to find them.
A skilled Potions Practitioner will be able to whip up an effective healing potion for most (non surgery requiring) maladies. They will also have a treasury of potions for various other purposes: natural sleeping draughts, visionary potions to alter consciousness, potions to heal broken hearts, attract wealth, love, beauty and success. Protection Magic
A Practitioner of Protection Magic, sometimes known as a Psychic Warrior, will be adept at banishing or binding spells and casting proactive circles and enchantments. They will be able to charge people or objects with subtle energies which pertain to specific results.
As Magic is a benign force, the true Psychic Warrior, whilst always being amongst the first to stand up against injustice, will not be a practitioner of curses or so called "black" magic. Instead they will take a protective, deflective, but nonetheless highly effective and energetic position. In extreme conditions a Master of Protection Magic may be called upon to take violent action, but this is very rare, and only as an absolute last resort - violent spells can only be sent from the Absolute Moral High Ground or they have a tendency to backfire. Most negative situations or people can be simply driven away with little effort and less destruction. Thus, a Protective Magician who boasts of sending psychic energy bombs or so on, is 99.9% of times a Novice with an unhealthy desire for power over others.
Protective Magic encompasses a wide variety of techniques, and so it is possible to be a Psychic Warrior and an Elemental Magician, Potions Master, Divination Master etc. and use protective sigils.
Which brings us on to...
Sigil Magic
Sigil Magic is a highly effective ancient branch of magic where a symbol is created to signify and call into being a certain outcome. Sigils can be used in most disciplines of magic, from healing to manifestation and protection. All witches or wizards would benefit from learning the process of creating their own magical sigils - some however, will become adepts at it, as done right, it can be all you need to cast highly effective multi purpose spells.
If you are struggling with the concentration, imagination, and quietening of the mind needed for Manifestation Magic, you may find the use of sigils particularly effective and helpful. This is because they help to focus your mental energy and ground it in the physical world. Try it! (Especially if you are more of a logical, unimaginative type of person.)
Elemental Magic or Energy
Elemental Magic harnesses the incredible powers of nature and your etheric/mental energy to cast spells. These spells could be for healing, attracting things that you want, or manipulating events in your life - energy magic is very versatile.

Another form of Energy Magic is Reiki. This is used particularly for healing.
