Real Magic: Pagan's React To Terrorism
Pendragon's School of Real Magic condemns the vile and dillusional perpetrators of recent terrorist attacks, and sends love to the victims of the terror attacks in Paris, the West Bank, Nigeria, Eygpt, and all of the many, almost countless others. (Do not forget in all of the western orientated media hype that there have been more attacks in places other than Europe!) Indeed, most terrorist cowards are despicably blowing up their own people!
As Pagan's we do not personally believe literally in either the teachings of the Bible or the Qu'ran; although we honour the peace and debate and spiritual food these philosophies have given various people throughout history. (A good many wars too, but we won't go there today haha) Despite not believing in these religions we also honour the basic human right of peaceful freedom of speech, whatever religion you may belong to.
A terrorist attack is both an attack on basic human decency and an attack on our freedoms of speech and democracy! Freedoms which as civilised Pagan's we must protect with our lives and everything we have! Therefore we believe it is of the utmost importance that each of us who cares does more than shake their heads in despair at these idiots. It is much more useful if you can find something to DO. To this end, I had a little think about the talents and qualities of each house and personality type, and came up with a little to-do list *grin*
What can I actually do to help as a witch or wizard?
Every House and personality type at Pendragon's School of Magic has an important role in the protection of our free and fair society. In general this comes in the guise of two actions:
Firstly, do NOT be afraid. If you feel fear then the terrorist has created the terror they wished to create - namely, they have won...
Show that you are not afraid by your ACTIONS. Speak out, take the mick (though don't be cruel), draw your cartoons, go to the concert, ride on the tube, write your blog, spread your opinions, laugh at extremists and everything they stand for!
True Wizard's are not afraid to confront evil wherever they find it - we must be, so to speak - DUMBLEDORE'S ARMY! :)
Secondly, whilst speaking out, remember that witches and wizards are broadminded and fair. Spare a thought for the millions of ordinary Muslim families who are as far away from extremists as you or I. Pagan's are deeply passionate about our rights to peaceful freedom of speech - so always condemn the rot in the apple, not the apple itself.
Pendragon:
Use your charisma, your energy, your contacts, your breadth of vision and power to get things done. Show your leadership and enthusiasm to draw people together; emphasise the honour of the fight to your friends. Spread the word using your popularity- people listen to you.
Tremorgan
Spread your unique perceptiveness and sensitivity, and use your artistic works to illuminate the world and spread a message of peace. Allow your deep emotions to come to the surface and drive you into action- get angry and creative! Write blog pieces, take photographs, draw pictures, write songs...Empathise and gently educate.
Aetheron
Study the details, present an intellectual argument. Research and invent novel ways to stand up for what is right. Spread your message of understanding, of justice, and share your great gift of being unprejudiced. Design computer programmes to educate, support activists within the West Bank etc., write in depth articles, hack extremist websites...
Treskellion
Take action, have big ideas, organise, devise your battleplan...The Charger is slow to go to War but once it does, nothing will stand against it! Use your energy, your enthusiasm, your humour. Spread the word on social media - inspire everyone to help. Use your many and varied talents and the talents of all your loyal friends too!
Tangible things you could do right now:
- Join and donate to relevent organisations
- Get involved in Public and Private Debate - blog, write, talk
- Report and therefore help to take down websites inciting or encouraging terrorist activities https://www.gov.uk/report-terrorism
- Become a Hacker and take down inappropriate sites online
- Get involved in the political process
- Educate yourself so that you can spread understanding
- Join Amnesty or other organisations supporting innocent victims of terrorism
