Banishing Spells and Binding Spells
How to banish or cast out bad influences from your life, or harmlessly bind the destructive actions of another person.
Although modern witches and wizards do not normally cast hexes or other harmful spells, (see curses101 for the reasons why)- there may come a time when you would like to work a little banishing or binding magic to prevent another person from continuing to aggravate and thwart you in life.
Banishing or binding spells are not just meant for people, they actually come into their own in a particularly effective way when it comes to improving your own personality. For example, banishing or binding spells can be cast to remove negative habits or situations – such as a weightloss spell or a spell to help with your alcohol/nail biting/gaming/low self esteem/procrastination problem, or whatever your own particular weakness might be!
Binding spells are considered to be very powerful and not to be taken lightly. Whatever your reason for banishing or binding something, whether it be another person, an outside situation, or a personal problem or wrong mental attitude, be sure that what you require is really a binding spell.
Often problems can be resolved in more positive and uplifting ways ie “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade!” But sometimes, now and then, you just haven't the time to waste mental energy or resources on a problem, you simply want it gone and forgotten about. This is the time for a banishing or binding spell.
To inspire you, here are a few things which you could use a banishing or binding spell for:
Self limiting thoughts or beliefs
Negativity
Personality traits which hold you back

The pschychological effects of past trauma or abuse

Here are some useful tools which are often used by witches and wizards when they cast banishing or binding spells:
A Banishing Pentacle
The Banishing Pentacle is a special symbol which can empower your banishing or binding spell. It is traditionally drawn on a piece of parchment with your finger dipped in oil or even blood. (Save the blood for really serious occasions however!) Sweet Almond Oil will be fine, particularly if a banishing herb such as Rosemary has been enthused in it, or a few drops of Rosemary essential oil added.

A Banishing Pentacle looks exactly the same – the crucial difference is in the fact that the witches pentacle symbol is normally drawn in one go, starting at the top point down to the lower left point – but the Banishing Pentacle is drawn the opposite way around, from the lower left point up to the top point.
Banishing gemstones and Crystals
Smoky Quartz and Jet are two semi precious gemstones which are often used in banishing and binding spells for their powerful energies. Black stones, such as Obsedian and Onyx, are great at removing negativity and other obstacles from your lie.
Candles and colour
Black Candles are your go to candle for banishing and binding spells – they have long been associated with this type of magical work. However, Brown Candles are sometimes used. These are useful as they are not quite as extreme as a black candle – a brown candle will stop someone harming you, for instance, without completely severing the relationship (for example a relation who is annoying you but you would still like to stay in touch with).
Banishing Herbs and Oils
Pepper, Mugwort, Rosemary, Sandalwood and St Johns Wort are all herbs which are great at banishing negativity and other undesirable things. These herbs can be used fresh, burnt as incense, or in the case of Rosemary, Sandalwood and Pepper can be bought as an essential oil, and applied to Black or Brown Banishing Candles to empower them even further. Perfumes can even be made of them which you could wear around the offending person or in the undesirable situation.
A Binding Poppet
A Binding Poppet or Mommet is an ancient magical tool- it shares a similar principle to a voodoo doll – but it is not quite the same, as rather than applying a morally dubious “eye for an eye” approach it is aimed at binding or preventing damage, not physically or mentally causing another person pain.
For instance, you can make a Binding Poppet to stop someone from harming or spreading gossip about you.
Here is how to make a Binding Poppet:
N.B This is an ancient and very powerful spell, based on the idea of sympathetic magic.Please do not take it lightly – and remember, it really isn't worth the energy to do this spell for just any little busybody – only do it if the person is really capable of inflicting real harm on you or your loved ones.
You will Need:
A Poppet – you can make your own out of cloth stuffed with straw or wool – alternatively you can buy an inexpensive rag doll to represent the person, or choose an object you associate with them.As long as the object which is acting as your Poppet is associated in your head with the person who is the subject of your banishing spell then the spell will work. Effective banishing spells have been carried out with carrots with names written upon them in permanent marker, or stuffed socks – your methodology is not half as important as your intention and willpower!

How to charge your Banishing Poppet with magical power
Cast a circle in your usual manner, lighting a black candle within it. Apply appropriate herbs or burn appropriate incense such as Rosemary or Sandalwood. Include Onyx or Obsedian in your ritual if you have them. An Athame or a black gemstone wand is a particularly powerful way to call up the elements for this spell.
Wrap your black cord or ribbon around your Poppet, repeating the following words as you do so seven times:
“(NAME”) You are Bound to do me no more harm”) So mote it be.”
When you have finished the spell,take your charged Poppet outside and bury it under a heavy rock. When the person has left you alone or become no longer a problem, retrieve your Poppet from its binding place.
To deactivate the Poppet – sprinkle it with water, saying -
“Your job is done. Your name is no longer (Name). I break the link, I set you free with love. So mote it be.”
If it was a very powerfully emotionally charged spell and you're being a purist, you may want to fully immerse your Poppet in salt water now, and then burn it – but we'll forgive you if you don't bother as its a less sensitive situation.
